Chapter 1: Re-awakening
Memories and thoughts surged through their minds, sparking a light in their beings, opening their eyes. Their eyes met an earthen cocoon, waiting for them to break through. One by one, the reached upwards, breaking the seal. The weapons that had laid by their sides where now taken with them, out of the earthen and unto the modern world, amoung the streets of Tokyo…
--
Tsukino Usagi sat on the park bench, her head in the crook of Chiba Mamoru’s shoulder. She looked up to him and smiled, her pigtails shifting along the ground.
“Usako,” he said, looking down to her.
“Mamo-chan.” Usagi smiled.
They inched closer, eyes slowly closing, blocking out the world. They were just an inch apart, so close, when a rustling in the trees behind them disturbed their silence. Usagi opened her eyes and turned her head sharply, sending her hair flying around her shoulders, to see what had moved. Her eyes narrowed slightly at whatever lay in the darkness, only to widen again as four shadows moved towards the light, shielding their eyes.
Usagi and Mamoru stood and faced the trees as the shadows came closer and closer, their weapons starting to glitter in the approaching light. Usagi drove her hand into her pocket, fingering the clasp on her Eternal Moon Compact. She took it out of her pocket, ready to transform, but nearly dropped it in surprise.
Four girls had finally stepped from the trees, shielding their eyes and holding weapons at their sides. Their hair glittered dully in the sunlight, causing the light to dance slightly around them. Broaches glittered on their chests and their collars started to blow in the wind. Their skirts and bodices were tugged as well, swaying slightly. The white gloves were blinding in the sunlight, along with the metal-coloured boots that they wore. Tiaras glittered on their foreheads.
Usagi gasped in surprise at seeing four new senshi standing there, right in the middle of Tokyo. They finally lowered their arms with having adjusted to the sunlight and looked around curiously, then spotted Usagi and Mamoru. They turned to one another and started chatting particularly quickly in some language Usagi could not understand.
“Excuse me…” she said, walking forward with her compact pointing towards them. “Who are you?”
The tallest one, a girl with black copper-tipped hair and green eyes, blinked, apparently unable to understand Usagi. The girl next to her, who had blue gold-tipped hair and light orange eyes, turned to her and started talking particularly fast. The first girl nodded and turned back to Usagi.
“W-who are you?” she said shakily in Japanese. She blinked a few times, as though she didn’t quite understand what she had just said.
“Tsukino Usagi,” Usagi replied, also in Japanese. She held out her compact for them to see. “Sailor Moon.”
The tall girl simply blinked at her last statement, then turned back to the others and spoke quietly to a blonde and silver-tipped haired girl. She whispered quietly back, then jumped particularly high to the nearest building. The others exchanged looks but followed her.
“Wait!” Usagi said, running forward a few steps. She stopped in vain as the four senshi went out of reach.
Mamoru walked over to her with a concerned expression on his face. “Who are they? More Animates?”
Usagi shook her head. “They weren’t wearing bracelets. Who could they be?…”
--
FireAngel’s eyes closed as the other three senshi followed her to the closest tower, landing gently on the roof with a click of their heels. WindAngel looked to the horizon with her usual un-smiling expression, her long black hair blowing gently in the wind. WaterAngel was fiddling with one of the prongs of her trident, and EarthAngel sat on the ground, balanced her hammer on it’s end, then placed her arms and head upon it sleepily.
“Eriyn,” WaterAngel said, looking up to FireAngel with glittering light-orange eyes. “What is this place? Where are we?”
FireAngel sighed, then looked questionably to the blue-haired senshi. “I don’t know, Nerei,” she said in Greek. She sighed again. “This place looks nothing like where we sealed ourselves inside the earth, does it?”
EarthAngel nodded sleepily, agreeing with FireAngel, then yawned. “Who do you think that blonde girl was, the one who called herself ‘Sailor Moon’?” she said, yawning again and nearly slumping off her hammer.
WindAngel turned back to the group, sighed and shook her head at EarthAngel’s question. “That’s obvious, Terra, she’s Sailor Moon! Do you think she has anything to do with Selene or Nyx?”
WaterAngel shook her head. “No, I don’t think so Melai. She would’ve called herself ‘MoonAngel’ or ‘Selene’ or something. Defiantly not Nyx, though… she had silver hair, remember?”
WindAngel nodded. “Well, speaking of Nyx… it seems she has been released, does it not? I mean, we have been awoken, all four of us, and we all know the circumstances of our individual sealing.”
FireAngel’s forest green eyes narrowed. “Yes… where is she though?…”
FireAngel’s question was answered with a scream in the dusk, echoing eerily across urban Tokyo. It rang through the air, causing shivers down the Angel’s spines, and a silent laugh rang after it. All four Angels jumped off of the tower and flew, occasionally re-bounding off of buildings, towards the source of the scream. They soon found themselves towards a more deserted end of Tokyo, when the scream echoed again.
They landed in a menacingly dark alleyway, their eyes strained to see against the blackness. A sudden, very small burst of light emitted from the end of the alleyway and the scream died, but echoed eerily. They heard a silent laughter in the dark.
“Eriyn, Terra, Nerei, Melai… how nice to see you again…” a cold, spine-tingling voice said from the darkness. “I see you got your just rewards from sealing me… but no…” the voice muttered, then turned unto itself. “That shall never happen again, shall it Angels?” It laughed, causing the air to go cold.
The Angels walked forward into the alleyway, their weapons starting to glow threateningly, revealing the source of the voice. The Angel’s eyes narrowed accordingly to an enemy from their distant past.
The dull silver hair shone in the weapon-light, and the deep blue eyes gleamed menacingly at the four Angels. The bodysuit of the fuku shined a deep blue, with the boots a swallowing black and full-length gloves a deep gray. She smiled coldly, then raised a sharp, curved blade, whose handle was wrapped in tattered ribbons. She rose above her head, smiling evilly, then brought it swiftly down while yelling her attack.
“Nyx Darkness Engulf!” she yelled, her blade now a blur.
The Elemental Angels jumped out of the way just in time, just barely avoiding Nyx’s attack. WindAngel brought her Ouranos Boomerang back, then let it fly.
“Ouranos Boomerang Tornado!!” she yelled.
The boomerang glowed brightly, then was engulfed by wind and debris, becoming a tornado itself. Nyx smiled evilly then jumped out of the way, the tornado subsiding and the boomerang returning to its possessor.
--
Usagi was walking down the streets of Tokyo silently, the sky growing darker and the streets deserted. She looked up to the sky, stars starting to appear, and thought of the girls they had met earlier that day.
Who are they? She thought, seeing stars appear one by one, bathed in moonlight. Are they good or evil? Where did they come from? She sighed, then continued to walk, her breath becoming steam the longer she did so.
She closed her eyes, sealing the darkness of the night entirely, and sighed again. Suddenly, a flash of light sifted through her eyelids, catching her attention. She opened her eyes and looked into the alleyway next to her, startled at what she saw.
The same four girls she had met earlier were fighting some enemy she could not see, it was too dark. She ran into the alleyway, pulling her compact out as she went.
“Moon Eternal Power!” she yelled.
--
The Elemental Angels continued to fight, knowing that they would be exhausted after long. FireAngel had started to pull her bowstring back, an arrow aflame, when a bright white light at the mouth of the alley caught her attention. She turned to see what it was, only to have to throw her arm over her face to shield her eyes. After a second, the light subsided but a glow remained at the source of the power.
A girl stood there, her hair done up in two buns and pigtails, dressed in the strangest fuku the Angels had seen. Wings sprouted from the middle of her back, giving her an angelic appearance, causing the Angels to lower their weapons.
The girl took a stance. “How dare you attack the innocent! Soldier of Love and Justice, I am Eternal SailorMoon!” she said, pointing towards the shadow that was Hecate.
Nyx snickered, then stepped forward, holding something the Angels had not seen before. A scroll was clutched tightly in her hand, glowing slightly.
“Moon, is it? Really now, that is no way to threaten your superior! You must surely know who I am?” she said coldly.
Moon’s eyes narrowed. “No.”
Nyx scowled deftly. “Fine then, Selene, I’ll make sure you remember me… Nyx Darkness Engulf!” she yelled, swinging her blade down.
Moon was hit with the full force of the blast, and screamed in full force. The Angels turned to Nyx, then jumped to her when she was occupied. They placed one of their hands onto Nyx each, and started to chant.
Nyx’s eyes widened, realizing what the Angels were doing. “No!” she yelled, then jumped away, turning into a shaft of bright blue light. The scroll lay forgotten on the ground where she had stood.
FireAngel scowled. “So close,” she said in Greek, then looked down and noticed the scroll. She picked it up, the scroll still glowing, and walked over to another figure in the dark.
A girl sat there, pale, her eyes dull. FireAngel placed the scroll on her chest and her hand over it and started to chant, causing the girl to glow. The scroll dissolved in her chest, and colour returned to her face. She blinked a couple of times, stared at FireAngel, and then ran off, looking in awe at Eternal SailorMoon as she passed. Moon looked to the girl and watched her run, her footsteps echoing in the eerie deserted Tokyo street. When she looked back to the four senshi, they were gone.
